IDEA: Music shaker

Just read a paper from ismir 2009 that several music snippets are remixed according to their tonal and tempo information. I mean, I have this idea very long time ago... But I did not do anything and now it is others' contribution. Though I am not saying I will be able to solve the question, I am just lazy and think way much more than work.

Anyway, if the technology is already there, what else can we do? Or can we go beyond this? Therefore the application idea pop out, simply an iphone app. If we can pick two songs and shake the iphone which indicates that blend/mix this two songs together in "a way". Can be if shake harder, they will blend better like phrase by phrase blend or something. And the technology required are tempo estimation as well as key detection with phase vocoder to synchronize these two attributes.

IDEA: Piano paint

Oh well, I know the name is kinda lame. Anyway, cause the idea is vague too. Just a quick note about an idea come up to my mind the other day.

What if we can paint by playing instrument? Try to narrow down, the first experiment will be build a system which takes the input of a keyboard as midi signal and then plot something on to the screen. I have a feeling that this is gonna be fun and a pretty cool interactive art. Though I have not put much thought to it yet.

Below are some quick memos:
Randomly pick the starting point for each music sentence. According to the note and harmony you played, different color can be chosen and the size of the stroke and touch can be related to how hard you play the keyboard (loudness). Like I can imagine that if some weird chord series are played loudly, there will be some explosive color objects appeared on the screen.

I am sure that this idea must be down by someone already. But I would love to build one too. Maybe when I have time, can start doing some literature search first (google...). And I am thinking about taking this as a chance to learn max/msp.

Bay area food map or fun map

突然有個idea
其實不是什麼了不起的idea

只是想到說
我們這些人呀
對我就在說你們
BB還有Ash
去玩去吃好吃東西的時候
都會照相
而且會寫blog跟別人分享

如果可以用google map弄一個地圖
把地址的點連結到我們寫的blog
或是各種照片

這樣以後我們查起來就比較方便了呀
而且只是多一個輸入地址跟blog連結的手續
搞不好還可以寫一個更好用的application直接幫你做這件事情

我之前去NYC玩的時候
就有做過我的玩樂地圖
google都有提供很容易使用

或許我們可以建在cold carpet的帳號下面
或者是再開一個帳號來做這件事情
我想的主要是吃的啦

如果有個地圖
然後可以點地圖上面就可以看到那家餐廳或食物的圖片
而且是自己人推薦的
不知道會不會還不錯用

不過一邊在打這篇文章的過程中
就覺得其實已經有很多網站有類似的功能
那為什麼我們要自己弄一個?

我想到的理由只是
我不相信外面網站講的
但是我相信我們自己朋友說的
還有他可能可以不單單只是個介紹
還包括紀錄我們去過的一些事情

遺物帳號管理

其實這個idea我好像有在Mr. 6的blog上看過
已經有人做了

但是今天突然想到
其實這個真的或許會很有用說

尤其是我們這個世代的人
幾乎把所有的資料都存在網路上
照片 日記 秘密 影片 音樂 信件
所有東西

如果哪天我們死了
那這些東西是不是就會消失在這個世界上

以前有人過世的時候
親人總是會幫他整理遺物
然後會找出各種的資料來幫助緬懷這個人
但是現在所有東西都在網路上
要怎麼辦呢?

如果可以建立一個網站
你去登入的時候
把你所有各種不同的帳號資料都留給他
當然那個網站也要設計成網站自己也不曉得這些資料
都要加密
然後可以設定成過世以後
會把這些資料寄給幾個你所指定的人
不管是親人 朋友 另一半 都可以

然後真的那一天的到來
雖然我不曉得要怎麼設定他怎麼知道那一天到來了
可能要跟醫院資料連線
或是多久沒登入就會假設你死了
(不過這個判定還蠻鳥的 變成你要不斷去提醒他你還活著)
啊 我想到了
只要你還有在使用任何網路服務的時候
比如說你還有在登入gmail
或是你還有在上msn
就表示你還活著

anyway,
只是覺得這個東西或許會有用

Diary mask

This just came to my mind.

For such a person like me who's always indirect, sometimes I'd like to post something on the blog related to my personal thought, might be offensive, might be bs, but that's just a way to dump trash. However, it is hard, cause I don't like others to take them too seriously. Since my emotion changes so fast that I just wanna say something that I didn't mean it.

If there's this kind of thing, which can not only change the subject of the diary, but the environment of how it happened INTELLIGENTLY, it could be nice that I can say something and not afraid of being stalked by other people, though I do like others to see it just don't want to take responsibility.

I know it's hard, to really dump the trash without hurting others' feeling. So the balance between the level of masking and the level of truth should be carefully tuned.

現在已經有很多音樂分享的網站了
早期的滾石可樂
現在的StreetVoice
國外的Myspace

已經把線上藝人包裝得很好了

我只是想說
如果可以結合Radiohead的例子
比如說
這些indie的音樂人
可以在這樣的網頁上
放自己的歌
並且
提供一個選項讓聽者donate
我覺得donate這個字不是很好
不過就是這樣的意思
那應該可以開啟一種不同的商業音樂機制

就這樣
我不敢再想下去了
我怕我一整天都在寫blog

煮水餃專用鍋

剛做蛋糕的時候突然想到

我們煮湯圓或煮水餃的時候呀
都會用一種方式
就是水滾了以後
加冷水進去
等他再滾
再加冷水進去
幾次以後
就好了

我只知道
如果不這樣做的話
水餃湯圓會破掉
但是我不曉得原理

但是這樣的話
做菜就要一直站在瓦斯爐旁邊
超麻煩

那
如果我們可以發明一個鍋子
可以偵測水滾了
(我相信一定有這種meter 比如說溫度100度 或是水蒸氣 或是水的滾動)
然後自動加入某量的水
(這也很簡單 可以鍋子旁邊有個小容器 每次煮的時候放冷水進去)
滾了幾次以後
(這也可以自己設定幾次)
就嗶嗶叫或怎樣

這樣就太完美了

科技始終來自懶惰

聽覺藝術與視覺藝術的轉換

找尋音樂跟影像(圖片)之間的連結
這兩個東西是我們用來感受東西並且在電腦的世界中比較發達的兩感

並且這兩者之間有很多的共同點
但是也有很多的不同點

我在想
可否找到一些連結
讓這兩種"藝術"之間可以有所轉換
並且這個轉換是大家可以接受的
可以感受到的

有的時候
你在聽音樂的時候
會覺得腦中有圖片
有的時候
你在看圖片或是影片的時候
會覺得腦中有聲音

這種經驗
我知道他可能是更higher level features之間的轉換
但是我們目前對low level feature的掌握比較足夠
可否對於這些
color-frequency-pitch
color intensity-amplitude-loudness
對timbre的連結要精緻比較難
可以想想

另外就是圖片是個沒有時間性的東西
我們可以說
把他的2D關係
轉換到音樂的phase關係
所以你可以聽到音樂在空間中不同位置mapping到圖片中發生的位置
這個mapping不一定好就是了

但是最重要的是
音樂有時間軸
就是所謂的rhythm
這個我們要怎麼做mapping
還需要再思考

所以我才會想到影像
因為他也是個隨時間流動的東西

現在就我所想過的
這種連結不一定會有意義
但是說不定也可以成為某種藝術的形式
